Über den Autor Daniel Handler

Daniel Handler, 1970 in San Francisco geboren, ist ein erfolgreicher US-Schriftsteller und Drehbuchautor mit deutschen Wurzeln. Darüber hinaus ist er Musiker und war u. a. Mitglied der New Yorker Band Magnetic Fields. Unter dem Pseudonym Lemony Snicket veröffentlichte Handler 1999 A Series of Unfortunate Events (dt.: Eine Reihe betrüblicher Ereignisse), eine 13-bändige Kinderbuchreihe über drei Waisenkinder, die von ihren Verwandten um ihre Erbschaft gebracht werden sollen. Die Serie verkaufte sich weltweit 65 Millionen Mal und wurde mit Jim Carrey, Jude Law und Meryl Streep als Darsteller verfilmt. Für seinen ersten Jugendroman 43 Gründe, warum es AUS ist wurde Handler mit dem Michael L. Printz Honor Award ausgezeichnet. Das von Maira Kalman illustrierte Buch erschien 2013 erstmals bei Hanser und 2025 in einer Neuausgabe mit Farbschnitt.
