How do we study Christian worship as it takes place outside of church walls? Specifically, what does a theology of worship look like in the context of academia? This book gathers the resources of liturgical, systematic, and practical theology to understand worship practices in an under-researched context: Christian university chapels.

In the study of evangelical worship, much attention is given to the dynamics of worship in Lord's Day (Sunday morning) church gatherings. This book breaks ground by decentering and expanding the radius of theological inquiry into the chapels of evangelical Christian colleges and universities. It dismantles theological assumptions that prioritize church worship and marginalize others, and then constructs a liturgical theology for undergraduate chapel programs. Advocating for stronger concentration on worship outside of churches, the author argues that university chapels are distinct worshiping communities with distinct liturgical theologies; accordingly, they are worthy of distinct theological and pastoral considerations. This book is at once a reference for researchers and a resource for campus ministers.
