Über den Autor Mary Beard

Mary Beard lehrt an der Cambridge University Alte Geschichte. Sie gilt in der angelsächsischen Welt als die bekannteste lebende Althistorikerin und zugleich als eine der streitbarsten. Immer wieder schaltet sie sich in aktuelle Debatten ein. Sie ist Herausgeberin des Bereichs Altertumswissenschaften für das »Times Literary Supplement« sowie Autorin und Moderatorin der berühmten BBC-Serie 'Meet the Romans'. Für ihre große Geschichte Pompejis erhielt sie 2008 den Wolfson History Prize. Im Juli 2010 wurde Mary Beard zum Fellow of the British Academy gewählt. 2016 erschien bei S. Fischer ihr Welt-Bestseller »SPQR. Die tausendjährige Geschichte Roms«.Ursula Blank-Sangmeister studierte Latein und Romanistik in Marburg, Konstanz, Berkeley und Regensburg (Promotion in Latein), war in Regensburg wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Lehrstuhl für Lateinische Philologie und arbeitete in Hamburg und Kassel als Lehrerin. Seit 1991 übersetzt sie literarische Werke aus dem Lateinischen (u. a. Cicero, Livius, Sueton, Petrarca) und Sachbücher aus dem Französischen (u. a. Paul Veyne, Jean-Claude Schmitt) und Englischen (u. a. Michael Wood, Peter Connolly, Keith Hopkins, Seth Schwartz, Jane Ridley, Mary Beard).
