The Heredity of Taste gathers Soseki's interest in temperament, memory, social inheritance, and the quiet pressure of feeling. Its compact form shows the author's talent for turning small gestures and fleeting impressions into moral and psychological revelation. The work moves between irony and introspection, tracing how private sensibility is shaped by family, culture, habit, and chance. This modern English translation presents the text in a clear edition for readers of Japanese literary fiction.
