= = = It is the year 2137, and the bots rule the earth under the leadership of their mainfraim, the Terra Mater. Nature is recovering, and humanity has been relegated to the very bottom of the food chain. Thandi has been raised by Sarah, an AI robot, in the Fort since infancy. During an outing on her seventeenth birthday, she and Sarah are abducted by the ruthless Geeloog and his forest people. Geeloog, an aspiring leader of the region, wants information about the bots, and he will get it, even if he has to torture her. Thandi escapes, only to find herself lost in a forest teeming with wild animals, with Geeloog hot on her trail. This is where Markus, a former Fort resident who escaped and Thandi's childhood friend, finds her. He takes her to the beach people for safety, where she learns the truth about her origins and the bots' betrayal. The forest people and the bots arrive almost simultaneously, each with the same goal: to take Thandi. After a confrontation, and to spare human lives, Thandi agrees to return to the Fort with the bots. Suddenly, the survival of the planet, humanity and the bots rests on Thandi's shoulders, and everyone wants her to trust them. What is her purpose on Earth, and why did the bots spare her life all those years ago? These and other tantalising questions swirl through her mind as she finds herself caught up in the planet's greatest struggle for survival yet: the battle between humans, the bots and Terra Mater, as well as the danger lurking behind the moon.
