Über den Autor Gottfried Keller

Gottfried Keller (19.7.1819 Zürich - 15.7.1890 Zürich) absolvierte eine Lehre als Vedutenmaler, studierte an der Münchner Kunstakademie, später Philosophie in Heidelberg. 1855 kehrte er in die Schweiz zurück und lebte zunächst ohne Einkommen bei seiner Mutter und seiner Schwester Regula, bis er 1861 Erster Stadtschreiber des Kantons Zürich wurde und ab 1876 als freier Schriftsteller lebte. Kellers Werke werden dem bürgerlichen Realismus zugeordnet, sein autobiographisch geprägter Roman »Der grüne Heinrich« führt die Tradition des Bildungsromans in skeptischer Weise weiter, sein bekanntester Novellen-Zyklus »Die Leute von Seldwyla« verbindet im »Keller-Ton« (den Ausdruck prägte Theodor Fontane) Realismus mit humorvoller Satire.
