Über den Autor Arthur Conan Doyle

Arthur Conan Doyle wurde 1859 in Edinburgh, Schottland geboren, wo er später Medizin studierte. 1878 wurde er Assistent des Chirurgen Joseph Bell, der Vorbild für Doyles Meisterdetektiv Sherlock Holmes war. Neben seiner Tätigkeit als Schiffsarzt und später der Arbeit in seiner eigenen Arztpraxis begann er in seiner Freizeit literarische Texte zu verfassen. Mit A Study in Scarlet (Eine Studie in Scharlachrot) veröffentlichte er 1887 die erste Geschichte um Sherlock Holmes und dessen Freund Dr. Watson. Um sich anderen schriftstellerischen Arbeiten widmen zu können, ließ er den berühmten und beliebten Helden 1893 den literarischen Tod in den Reichenbachfällen sterben. Für Der Hund der Baskervilles (1902) entschied sich Doyle jedoch, noch einmal auf Sherlock Holmes zurückzugreifen.
