Über den Autor Michael Innes

Michael Innes (d.i. John Innes Mackintosh Stewart, 1904-1994) wurde in Edinburgh geboren und studierte Literaturwissenschaft und Psychoanalyse, letzteres natürlich in Wien. Später wurde er Professor für Anglistik und schrieb nebenbei zur Entspannung Kriminalromane, seit er sich mit seinem Erstling 1936 auf einer Seereise nach Australien die Zeit vertrieben hatte. Insgesamt sind so mehr als 50 Kriminalromane entstanden, von denen viele an einer Universität (etwa in Oxford) spielen. Detective Inspector John Appleby ermittelt bereits seit Innes' erstem Kriminalroman Zu viel Licht.Manfred Allié, geboren 1955 in Marburg, übersetzt seit 20 Jahren Literatur, u.a. Edith Wharton, Scott Bradfield, Ralph Ellison, Richard Powers, Yann Martel, Michael Innes und Patrick Leigh Fermor, den er »kongenial übersetzt« hat (Hardy Ruoss, Literaturclub). Für seine Übersetzung von Patrick Leigh Fermors Die Zeit der Gaben erhielt er 2006 den Helmut-M.-Braem-Übersetzerpreis. In seiner Übersetzung erschienen zudem Zwischen Wäldern und Wassern sowie Der Baum des Reisenden und Mani (alle drei zusammen mit Gabriele Kempf-Allié), Drei Briefe aus den Anden, Die Violinen von Saint-Jacques und Rumeli von Patrick Leigh Fermor sowie Der Prüfstein von Edith Wharton und Der verschwundene Kater von Mary Gaitskill.
