Über den Autor Wang Xiaobo

Wang Xiaobo, 1952 in eine Pekinger Intellektuellenfamilie geboren, gilt als das Enfant Terrible der chinesischen Literatur. Von 1968-1970 in eine Landkommune in Yunnan verschickt, unterrichtete er später Soziologie an der Peking-Universität. In den 1990ern begann er, als freier Schriftsteller zu arbeiten, wurde jedoch nie vom staatlichen Kulturbetrieb anerkannt und veröffentlichte zunächst ausschließlich in Taiwan, wo er zweimal den United Daily-Literaturpreis gewann. 1997 starb er an einem Herzinfarkt. Karin Betz übersetzt chinesische und englische Literatur, ist Kulturvermittlerin, Herausgeberin, Moderatorin und DJ. Zu den von ihr übersetzten Autoren gehören neben Can Xue Liao Yiwu, Mo Yan, Liu Xiaobo und Liu Cixin. Für ihre Übersetzung von Can Xues Roman »Liebe im neuen Jahrtausend« wurde sie für den Internationalen Literaturpreis des Haus der Kulturen der Welt 2022 nominiert.
