Meanwhile Latif Mahmud, someone intimately connected with Saleh's past, lives quietly alone in his London flat. When Saleh and Latif meet in an English seaside town, a story is unravelled. It is a story of love and betrayal, seduction and possession, and of a people desperately trying to find stability amidst the maelstrom of their times.

Über den Autor Abdulrazak Gurnah

Abdulrazak Gurnah (geb. 1948 im Sultanat Sansibar) wurde 2021 mit dem Nobelpreis für Literatur ausgezeichnet. Er hat bislang elf Romane veröffentlicht, darunter »Paradise« (1994; dt. »Das verlorene Paradies«; nominiert für den Booker Prize), »By the Sea« (2001; »Ferne Gestade«; nominiert für den Booker Prize und den Los Angeles Times Book Award), »Desertion« (2006; dt. »Die Abtrünnigen«; nominiert für den Commonwealth Writers' Prize) und »Afterlives« (2020; dt. »Nachleben«; nominiert für den Walter Scott Prize und den Orwell Prize for Fiction). Gurnah ist Professor emeritus für englische und postkoloniale Literatur an der University of Kent. Er lebt in Canterbury. Seine Werke erscheinen auf Deutsch im Penguin Verlag. »Diebstahl« ist sein erster neuer Roman seit Verleihung des Literaturnobelpreises.Eva Bonné übersetzt Literatur aus dem Englischen, u.a. von Rachel Cusk, Anne Enright, Michael Cunningham und Abdulrazak Gurnah. Sie wurde 2022 mit dem Heinrich Maria Ledig-Rowohlt-Preis ausgezeichnet.
