Heroes of Legend is a high fantasy series, inspired by many of the greatest myths, fairy tales, religious, spiritual and historical texts and plays, such as Robin Hood, King Arthur, Julius Caesar and Antony and Cleopatra, The Journey to the West, and the series blends these stories together, with characters and magical abilities inspired by these ancient stories and texts. Other symbolic versions of such characters include the Wizard Merlin, Friar Tuck, as well as Gods and Deities from ancient myths that play a vital role in the character driven narrative, that includes epic battles in the later books, particularly from Books Four to Six, where Gods and demons battle it out in a struggle to hold back the threat of a rising power known as the Vampire King.

The story of the three younger main characters, is a boy named Matthew, born the son of a lost King, and Matthew brings the first rebirth of a dragon into the world, bringing much of that magical power back to himself and to nature itself.

A young princess brings the Red Fire Phoenix back into being, with a magical ability that may save the world from the threat of the Vampire King.

The third part to this magic circle, is a young Archer named Tristan, and sired from the King of Wolves housed amongst his clans, a white wolf is born with red eyes, signaling the Re-Birth of Drahkuhl, the King of Vampires.

Other texts that inform and inspire the psychoanalytical style of writing and research are Freud's The Interpretation of Dreams, Carl Jung's The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious, as well as Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces, and Romance of the Grail, also by Campbell. Other texts focused on Robin Hood include Reading Robin Hood by Stephen Knight, and another title by Knight titled Robin Hood. The Journey to the West series has also been researched and read to inform the writing, the Anthony C. Yu English translated version, The Heroes by Charles Kingsley, The Kojiki: Records of Ancient Matters, with new works being researched for later editions, such as The Iliad by Homer, and other books related to the Heroes of Troy and Achilles.
