This edited volume, titled "Advances in Agri-Food Systems", is the second volume in a set that comprises of contributed chapters from 22 leading experts in the fields of agriculture and allied sectors. These chapters are primarily based on invited lectures delivered by experts during the XVI Agricultural Science Congress, held in Kochi, India, from October 10-13, 2023. The book provides an overview of recent advancements in the role of agriculture and food systems towards sustainability in the era of climate change. Topics include field crops, horticultural crops, the livestock sector, nutritional aspects, the application of the latest field-based technologies, and agriculture-related policies and institutions. Some of the key subjects covered are: Fast Track Breeding Approaches in Fruit Crops; Genome Editing in Legumes; Genome Editing in Vegetable Crops; Genome Edited Livestock; Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals; Integrated Farming Systems; and the Changing Pattern of Demand for Agri-processed Commodities, among others. This book aims to exchange and share the latest research findings, ideas, and experiences on all aspects of agri-food systems to formulate pathways for transforming our agri-food system to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. It provides valuable insights and knowledge to a diverse audience, including scientists, academicians, students, entrepreneurs, farmers, policymakers, and others.

Über den Autor Himanshu (Hrsg.) Pathak

Dr. Himanshu Pathak is working as an associate professor at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, India. He received B.E. degree from Nagpur University and further Ph.D. degree from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna, India. Dr Pathak has expertise on mesh independent computational methodology (like XFEM and meshfree methods), multi-scale modelling, solid mechanics, fracture and fatigue analyses of composite materials, modelling of composites and mechanical characterisation of composites etc. Dr. Pathak is also involved in meso-scale modelling for the prediction of thermo-mechanical-electrical properties of tailored composite materials. Dr. Sunny Zafar is a faculty member of school of mechanical and material engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Mandi. He received a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering with distinction from Punjab Technical University in 2011, and an M.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 2013. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 2016. His present research interests span advanced manufacturing processes for polymer composites, additive manufacturing, microwave based manufacturing processes, surface engineering, experimental tribology, mechanical behaviour of materials. Much of his doctoral work has been on improving the understanding, design, and performance engineered surfaces for various tribological applications.
