Über den Autor Ahmet Ümit

Ahmet Ümit, geboren 1960 in Gaziantep, ist einer der meistgelesenen Autoren in der Türkei. Er war von 1974 bis 1989 aktives Mitglied der Türkischen Kommunistischen Partei und schrieb in den Achtzigerjahren nicht nur seine ersten literarischen Texte, sondern studierte auch an der Akademie für Gesellschaftswissenschaften in Moskau, was zu jener Zeit nach türkischem Recht illegal war. Während der Militärdiktatur von 1980-1990 war er im Untergrund aktiv und musste zeitweise auch selbst untertauchen. Er zog sich schließlich aus der aktiven Politik zurück und konzentrierte sich aufs Schreiben. Einige seiner zahlreichen Bücher wurden erfolgreich verfilmt. Für seine Nachforschungen zu »Das Land der verlorenen Götter« wurde er 2023 zum Korrespondierenden Mitglied des Deutschen Archäologischen Instituts Istanbul ernannt.
